About This Guide
This is the sister guide to Best Brunch Pubs in Geelong. The brunch guide is the editorial pick — six pub bistros where the kitchen runs an actual brunch program for the weekend foreshore crowd. This guide is the full list: every pub in the Geelong region that opens before 11am on Saturday or Sunday, regardless of whether the kitchen is doing eggs or just opening the bar for the early shift.
Half the venues here are sports bars or pokies-and-TAB locals where "open early" means 10am and a bar staff member putting the racing channel on. The other half are bistros and coastal hotels that actually do something with the morning slot. We list both honestly. If you want the curated brunch pick by region, the brunch guide is the better starting point. If you want to answer "is anything open before 11am near me?", this is the page.
All hours verified as of May 2026. Public holidays and weekday hours vary — this guide is the Saturday and Sunday opening picture only.

The 6:30am Exception — Edge Geelong
Edge Geelong on Eastern Beach Road is the earliest pub kitchen in the region — 6:30am on Saturday, 8am on Sunday. The full bistro menu runs from open: eggs, breakfast plates, coffee, beer, cocktails. The outdoor deck looks straight across Corio Bay to the You Yangs. This is not a "have a beer at 7am" pub by accident — it is the only Geelong venue that has built its weekend morning programme deliberately, for the foreshore walking, swimming and dog-park crowd who get up before the city does.
If the question is "is anything open at 7am that isn't a cafe?", the answer is Edge — and only Edge — within the entire Geelong region. Worth knowing if you've ever wanted breakfast that comes with a Bloody Mary and a Corio Bay view.
The 9am Opener — Norlane Hotel
Norlane Hotel on Princes Highway opens at 9am every day of the week. This is an honest northern-suburbs pub — bistro, TAB, pokies room, sports screens, bottle shop, the whole package — and the 9am open is for the early-morning racing crowd and the punters who like a bet with breakfast before the rest of the city is dressed.
It is not a brunch venue and we wouldn't pretend it is. But it is open earlier than every other non-Edge pub in the region, and if you are working a Geelong-North early shift or starting a road trip up the Princes Highway, it is the one bar that will be ready before 10am. Bistro kitchen typically opens later for lunch service.
The 10am Wave — 22 Pubs Across the Region
Saturday and Sunday at 10am is when most of the Geelong-region pub network turns the lights on. Twenty-two venues open this slot, spanning CBD heritage hotels, Bellarine coastal pubs, Surf Coast brunch destinations, and the suburban sports-bar circuit. Below they're grouped by region to make planning easier.

Who Uses an Early Pub Opening
An early pub opening serves a real, specific audience — and being honest about who they are matters. The 10am pub door is for:
- Workers on early shift — knock-off at 9am from a night shift, want a real beer in a real venue, not a service-station tinny
- Foreshore and trail walkers — the Eastern Beach, Barwon Trail, Lorne foreshore and Anglesea river walks all run before 10am; a pub stop at the end is the reward
- Pre-game punters — Cats home games kick off from 1pm; a 10am start at a sports bar near the ground (Carrington, Valley Inn, Sphinx) is the standard build-up
- Road trippers — Great Ocean Road runs from Torquay through Anglesea and Lorne; an early pub stop is the natural mid-morning break
- Racing crowd — Saturday racing starts mid-morning; the TAB pubs (Norlane, Carrington, Phoenix, Fyansford, Great Western, Sphinx, Grovedale, Lara, Gateway, White Eagle, Peninsula) are open in time for the first races
- Brunch substitutes — for the venues that actually run a bistro at 10am (Edge, Barwon Heads, Lorne, Anglesea, Esplanade Queenscliff, Fyansford), see the curated brunch guide
If you fit one of those, the right pub is on the list above. If you wanted brunch with a flat white and avocado, this is the wrong page — try a cafe.
Early-Pub Tips
- The kitchen doesn't always open with the door. Most of the 10am pubs serve drinks from 10am but the bistro starts at 11am or 12pm — call ahead if a meal is the point of the trip.
- Edge Geelong is the only venue where the kitchen genuinely opens with the door (6:30am Saturday with the full breakfast menu running).
- Public holiday hours vary. Most of these venues stick to weekend hours on long weekends, but ANZAC Day and Christmas Day have specific Victorian rules — confirm by phone.
- Coffee at a pub before 11am is hit-and-miss — Edge does proper coffee, Waurn Ponds Hotel has an in-house coffee shop, most others will pour you a long black if asked but won't be set up for cafe-grade service.
- For the early Saturday morning racing crowd, the TAB pubs are open before the first race — Norlane at 9am, then a wave at 10am across the suburbs. The CBD Phoenix and Carrington are walkable from the Geelong Station.
- For the Great Ocean Road run, leaving Geelong before 9am and stopping at Anglesea (35 min) or Lorne (60 min) for a 10am pub break clears the Torquay bottleneck before it builds.
