About
St George Workers Club sits at 212 Pakington Street in the 200-block between Cremorne at 215 and Telegraph down at 88 — the eighth pub on the strip and the oldest most-intact hotel still trading in Geelong West. The building has run continuously as the St George Hotel since 1893 and is listed in the Victorian Heritage Database as a key part of the Pakington Street commercial precinct. In 1998 it switched to the Workers Club model — members, new members and guests sign in at the door, annual membership is $20, and the rest of the venue runs like a proper pub: bar, bistro, gaming room and function spaces.
The bistro is open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and Tuesday through Saturday for dinner. The bar carries Keno across the gaming side, the sports bar covers the regular fixtures, and the outdoor area has disabled access for the smokers. Friday is the night the regulars block out — 'Spin to Win' raffle from 6pm where every spin wins a prize, scheduled across the year.
